Hello, friends,

Many of you may be directly or indirectly affected by the recent earthquake in Türkiye and Syria, have family or friends who are, or be simply looking for opportunities to help. We have received the following resources and links from several of our fellow grad workers, and we wish to pass them along to you in the hopes that they may be useful as starting points.

A group of Turkish students at Northeastern are supporting the Bridge to Türkiye Fund:

https://secure.givelively.org/teams/bridge-to-turkiye/kahramanmaras-earthquake-relief-fund/northeastern-university-students-of-turkey – we call on Northeastern to at least match the funds raised by their students.

We especially wish to highlight the needs of the specific minority groups, including Kurds, Alevis, and Assyrians, who have been particularly harmed by the earthquake and may be underserved by governmental aid. Here are some efforts we have been recommended for this:

Here are additional links to aid groups that have been suggested to us:

Additionally, we call on Northeastern to promptly and unrestrictedly provide any necessary paid leave, extra medical and mental health services, and assistance with visas or other travel difficulties to any directly or indirectly affected students.

If you have additional suggestions, questions, or simply want to talk to fellow grad students about any concerns or troubles you are facing, please do reach out by replying here, or talking directly to any of the organizers in your department.

In solidarity,

The GENU-UAW Organizing Committee
